Individuals who lose their temporary resident status in Canada have the option to apply for restoration within 90 days of its expiry under Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. Restoration applications must be submitted online or by mail to IRCC and cannot be done at a Canadian port of entry. For those whose status was lost due to a refused extension application, the 90-day restoration period begins from the date of refusal, not the date of receipt of the decision. Applicants must meet initial status requirements, pay fees, and explain why they didn’t extend or change status earlier.
